Get to know Sista Stroke better
Q1: What's been your worst job?
It was a corporate job i held down in Chicago. I was an admin's assist that supported a 16-member team, that was led by a complete b*tch. The money was good, but the stress wasn't worth it. Needless to say, heh, I was told I wasn't a "good fit" and let go.
It was a blessing in disguise, and I've been focused on making my music ever since. |
Q2: If a celebrity were to play you in a move. who would it be?
Eva Mendez. And if she's busy, my 2nd choice would be Paz Vega. She's haw AND funny!!
|
Q3: What are your vices?
Ooooooo, vices! Right, lets see then: I smoke too much, I smoke herb, a chilled glass of Pino will never go unnoticed, I'm compulsive about a clean kitchen and bathroom, i LOVE very bad b-movies, and layin in bed on Saturday morning's watching classic Soul Train episodes . |
Q4: What do you spend your money on?
Lol, not what I should be spending it on!! In no particular order: My Son, records, lotions and toiletries (huge weakness'), gear, jewelry, bills, the occasional coffee or tea, my future, clothes, purses, and shoes. I am a woman after all ... |
Q5: What did you want to be when you grew up?
I wanted to be one of two things growing up: A Veterinarian or a classical pianist. Though I did have a back-up plan to be a drummer for Rush, ha ha!! Neil Pert was still kickin' it so I figured I'd be nice and let him keep the job ;-) |
Q6: What's the worst item of clothing you've ever worn?
Oooooooooof, this horrible canary-yellow dress that my mother made me wear for Easter. I was about 4 or 6 yrs old ... and she found me hanging from a tree branch, by the hem of that horrible yellow dress, after telling me to stay clean and stay put. Lol, man, I wish i had that pic now!! Try to imagine this pic: Torn dress, bleeding knee, my ponytails one huge mess (as curls are rather hard to control!), a brother snickering at me, and one very pissed off mother!!! It was classic. |
Q7: What's the coolest t thing in your house?
There's two things actually: A wicked gorgeous blue, abstract painting that my friends sister, Pilar Paulson, did. And my Roland keyboard. |
Q8: What would you change about yourself if you could?
Hmmm ... you know, if you'd asked me that about 5 years ago, I could have given you a list. But I've got to say that, well, I rather love myself just as I am - now. I'm no size 2, my hair pisses me off one more days than I care to admit, and I wasn't blessed with a trust fund bestowed by two insane parents who feel guilty about anything. But I'm happy with who I ... wait a minute .. ok, there's one thing: I wish my memory was that of an elephant's!! |
Q9: Have you ever been arrested?
Nope. But I did come home once to a cop in my kitchen talking to my mamma. Turned out she called the cops when I'd snuck out of the house. I peered in the window from which I'd snuck out from, and lo and behold I see a pair of black street shoes. My gaze followed them up and then i saw the gun, lol .. me being me, i tried walking in like nothing had happened, ha ha ha. Damn I thought my mom was going to kill me that night!!!!! It was also the first night I'd smoked weed - ever - in my life. So you can say it was a little, humorous - to say the least. |
Q10: What did the latest text message you got say?
Oooooooo ... man! Do I need to give this one in detail??? Tell ya what, here's the 2nd to the last: Ben Jones texting to let me know he was on his way to watch "Hero's" tonight. |
Q11: What does Music mean to you?
Music is a no boundaries and no apologies kind of deal. It's spiritual and gives my voice, with all the tools provided, the courage to write my story within my own book. Most of all, though, music to me is a forever simmering Revolution within my own mind: It means that change is always near – keeping me and my sound unmarked and easy to hear. Thats why I'm taking my music on the road with me to deliver it to the dance floor revelers to spread my message. That includes taking it around the world to allow everyone to read my "book".... keep an ear out I may just become coming to your town soon ;-) ... |
