Subversive LA goes Overground in Hollywood to Libertine on Sunset & King King's 'Balance' on Hollywood Blvd. First stop Libertine, next King King!
Getting There: Well! - to anyone who has ever driven to Hollywood on a Saturday night- you can imagine that it was full of traffic, pedestrians, drunk actors and then a few bouncers. SO in all not the best place to travel & not to mention the parking fees which were $20- $35! And forget about street parking as its all restricted to residents only.
Arrival: Upon arrival at Libertine the bouncers read our IDs as if it was an epic novella by Danielle Steele, with these bizzare blue lights? not sure what that was about. At King King the bouncer was friendly and so was the ticket/door staff.
Party Scene: - At Libertine the layout of the place is great, nice fireplace couches & a huge smoking patio. There were nice rooms and the atmosphere was very intimate. The dance floor was tiny though, and it was a bit strange to be dancing, as there were only about 8 people on the floor. Would recommend this venue if your just out for a few drinks and not in the mood to dance. The music was average, a bit slow and vocal for a Sat. night!
- At King King's 'Balance' the music was much better, venue has a great size dance floor & the sound system was fab. The atmosphere was fun and lively. King King has a good weekly here, and the place was pretty packed. Would recommend this for anyone who just wants to get down! No attitude & no lines.
Final Word: To sum up- A night 'overground' in Hollywood is a good night out if your just in the neighborhood, after dinner or doing a spontaneous night out. We did not get to visit all the venues there (our bank balances simply could not take it!) but they are reliable, the music was decent, and in general had a nice night overall.
